The coaching program at Green Fields Elementary supports readers throughout the building in 3rd and 4th grade. The literacy coaches assess students' strengths and needs. Based on this information, groups of students are pulled throughout the day for 30 minutes sessions. During those sessions students work on a variety of reading skills and strategies including:

- decoding strategies (how to solve unknown words)
- fluency (how a student sounds when they read)
- vocabulary (meaning of words, developing both oral and written vocabulary)
- word work (phonics skills to support decoding words and writing)
- comprehension (strategies and skills students can use to help them understand what they read)
- written responses to text
